Hello Drum families! Thank you for stopping by and checking out our website - we really do appreciate it! We would like to apologize for our absence of late. It is our goal to make these blogs a regular occurrence so that we can keep our families involved in what is happening in the gym here at Drum. Here's the latest scoop on what we are doing with our Wolves:
Wall Pickle Ball & Fitnessgram Testing:
Students recently completed a unit on wall pickleball that was very popular. If you are unfamiliar with the game, it is very similar to racquetball or squash, but played with whiffle balls and pickleball paddles. Students learned and practiced two different types of serves, as well as both forehand and backhand shots. As with all of our units, we spent the first few weeks practicing these skills in various build-up activities and small skill-based games. When students have demonstrated the ability to perform these skills consistently, we then end the unit with competitive games against an opponent. These are a lot of fun to watch and we love to see the growth of our students as they progress and develop throughout the unit.
All of our students also recently completed the spring fitnessgram assessments. Our Drum Wolves completed the push up assessment, the shoulder stretch assessment, the curl-up assessment, and the PACER. Due to the sheer volume of students that we assess (over 600), we did not enter all of these scores into the gradebook. The only assessment that you will see in the gradebook is the PACER score. Please know that we do not grade students on their ability to run the PACER test. The score that you see in the gradebook is simply for your reference and represents the number of laps your child completed. It carries no weight in the gradebook and does not affect your child's grade in any way. For more information about the Fitnessgram, please click here.
Grading:
All of our students are graded in two categories in the gradebook. First, students earn a daily 'Personal Responsibility' grade each time they come to PE. Your child will earn a full 25 points if he/she/they:
Personal responsibility makes up 80% of your child's grade. The other 20% of their grade is made up from our end of unit assessments. If you have any questions about your child's grade, please don't hesitate to reach out!
Make it a great day out there!
