Welcome back to our PE Blog - thank you for stopping by to find out how well our week went here in the Drum Gymnasium.
Mr. Skinner and Mr. Fisher realized that many of you may not know or recognize who this Mr. Burd is who we keep referring to in our communications and we offer our apologies for not introducing him sooner. We are excited to announce that we have a student teacher working with us this semester and his name is Cooper Burdick (Mr. Burd). He has provided a brief bio for you to read here and you can also learn more about him in his parent letter - here.
The opening routine this week had the students participating in a H.I.I.T. Workout (High Intensity Interval Training) which included 30 seconds of exercise work followed by 20 seconds of rest. Exercises included Jumping Jacks, Side Planks, 4 Count Burpees, Cross Countries, Plank Walks and Kayak Crunches. If you don't recognize any of these you can ask your child to demonstrate what they are because they all did a great job performing each exercise during the workouts. Check out this brief video of our 7th graders!
Early in the week we presented a video to the students which highlighted and detailed some of the major expectations we have for everyone who enters our gym space. These expectations are designed to encourage safe behavior and responsible interaction while students are in PE. These expectations can be reviewed in this video (linked here) or on our PE contracts which you can see here. Every student was provided with a PE Contract to take home, read over with their family, get it signed and then bring it back to turn into the gym for points (this is an assignment and the PE Contracts are due back by Friday, September 15th.)
Later in the week we played an exciting game called "Team Sliders" which involves teamwork, cooperation, coordination, accuracy, running, agility and most importantly integrity. You can see a brief clip of the game here.
We hope you all have a great weekend and we look forward to starting our Soccer Unit on Monday.
Wolves, we will see you all next week.
Sincerely,
Greg Fisher, Charlie Skinner and Cooper Burd
